Evaluation of different alloying concepts to trace non-metallic inclusions by adding rare earths on a laboratory scale

چکیده

Different alloying concepts to trace deoxidation products, mainly aluminium oxides, using rare earth elements (REEs), were tested on the laboratory scale by melting trials with a high-frequency remelting furnace. Lanthanum and Cerium, which belong group of light REEs, used for these experiments. The formed multiphase inclusions characterized scanning electron microscopy energy dispersive spectroscopy. Concerning higher atomic numbers traced non-metallic (NMIs) seem brighter than steel matrix compared products. REE-traced oxides showed primarily heterogeneous almost globular morphology. mean equivalent circle diameter REE-containing NMIs is all similar about 2 µm. experimental results pointed out that recovery rates various differ only slightly. In contrast, values depend surface-to-volume ratio amount oxygen in melt.

The Effect of Different Non-Metallic Inclusions on the Machinability of Steels

Considerable research has been conducted over recent decades on the role of non‑metallic inclusions and their link to the machinability of different steels. The present work reviews the mechanisms of steel fractures during different mechanical machining operations and the behavior of various non-metallic inclusions in a cutting zone. More specifically, the effects of composition, size, number a...

Extractive metallurgy of rare earths

Although most of the rare earth metals were discovered in Sweden, the industrialisation started in the Austrian Empire. This was due to the fact that the Swedish chemist Jons Fridrik Bahr (1815–1875) from Uppsala went to Heidelberg in Germany in 1855 to analyse some rare earth minerals by the spectroscope discovered recently by chemistry professor Robert Bunsen (1811– 1899) and his colleague ph...
